About Altarxito

Altarxito is a lovingly crafted collection of vibrant, pop-up altar kits designed to help people connect with the Mexican tradition of honoring the lives of our loved ones who have passed on. With care, empathy, and cultural knowledge, founder Ana Beatriz Muñoz created Altarxito to make setting up altars and remembering loved ones more accessible — wherever you are — especially for Mexicans living far from home.

Rooted in the word “altar” and infused with cariño (“-ito,” because the original kit is convenient, pequeño y lindo), the name Altarxito honors both the significance and playfulness of Día de Muertos. The “X” is a proud nod to México, the home of the tradition and of Altarxito’s founder!

Altarxito was inspired by the desire to preserve and share tradition and heritage. In the United States, Ana Beatriz saw many generations of Mexicans and Mexican expatriates striving to keep their cultural practices alive and connect with their ancestors. And, understanding the sorrow of losing loved ones, she created Altarxito to support that effort — to offer the tools, inspiration, and guidance for anyone to build altars with love and ease, even when space is limited or you are far from México.

Altarxito is not only for those who grew up with this tradition, but also for those who want to learn, connect and enrich the meaning of life by honoring their ancestors and loved ones with care and art. Each piece of the Altarxito invites a conversation about memory, grief, joy, and the sacred cycle of life and death. It is an offering: to remember, show respect, reflect, feel, heal and celebrate.

Keep tradition alive. Make a little space to heal. Celebrate your loved ones with color and joy.

Bring home an Altarxito today!

“I want to encourage Mexicans everywhere to continue or start traditions of their heritage. I want to help in the process of healing  by sharing these traditions so  more people can understand and celebrate the cycles of life the way Mexicans do.” - Ana Beatriz Muñoz Ruiz, Founder

About the Founder

Ana Beatriz Muñoz Ruiz was born in Veracruz, raised in Mexico City, and later built a home and started a family in Cancún, México. Now based in Austin, Texas, Ana Beatriz is the founder of Altarxito, a line of products honoring Mexican culture and creating opportunities for meaningful remembrance.

With a background in communications, production, and entrepreneurship, Ana Beatriz brings a lifetime of curiosity and creativity to everything she does. She has worked in sales and creative spaces, always centering her productivity on connecting to people and community. She is a businesswoman, an adventurer, and a proud mother of two sons – Emiliano and Jerónimo. Ana Beatriz and her boys grew up immersed in and inspired by the ocean, the jungle, the vibrancy of Mexican culture, and a deep love for tradition and people.

Her connection to Día de Muertos is personal. Having experienced the profound loss of dear family members and friends, Ana Beatriz has always turned to the tradition of building altars as a way to reconnect with her loved ones — to feel their presence, remember their essence, and share their stories. And now that she is living abroad, the tradition also helps her connect to her heritage, beloved home, family and friends all over the world.

Ana Beatriz brings this perspective into every aspect of Altarxito. Whether curating an altar or collaborating with designers, she draws inspiration from nature, the colors of Mexico, and the vibrancy of Mexican life. She believes creativity is not something you have or don’t have — it’s a way of seeing, feeling, and being a part of something bigger than yourself. Altars are deeply personal expressions, and with Altarxito, everyone is invited to add their own creativity and care to make their altar unique and meaningful.

In the big picture of the universe, we are only here for a minute, but that is ok. I want to be remembered as someone who was aware of that impermanence as someone who loved life and truly enjoyed every day as it came.”

Today, with encouragement from her supportive husband Scott and collaboration with her talented sons (who presently live in Germany), Ana Beatriz is living a new chapter — full of learning, growing, and connecting to community. She loves swimming, practicing Pilates, eating enchiladas and key lime pie, and dreaming up new adventures and projects.

Her hope is both simple and profound: that Altarxito helps people everywhere feel closer to home and connected in a vibrant and meaningful way to those they’ve lost.
